The 2017 Mercedes-Benz G550 4×4²

Jason Bourne, Treadstone, they are all back July 29th, 2016.  Although it doesn’t show up in the movie, I’m betting the super spy would pick the new 2017 Mercedes Benz G550 4×4 as his vehicular weapon of choice.

Since production began in 1972, the military vehicle turned suburban roll-about, has acquired a cult-like following. The name Gelaendewagen translates literally to “off road vehicle”, and since 1979,when civilians could buy them, more than 250,000 vehicles have been delivered to customers around the globe.

The Mercedes Benz  G550 4×4 will go where even heavily modified off-road vehicles won’t go thanks to massive ground clearance courtesy portal axles. (Impressive your friends: “…unlike a conventional axle, this 4×4 has portal axles which let the half shafts drop down from the axles and lets it roll over seriously big drop-offs…”)

The exterior design of the G-Class has become an icon in the automotive design landscape, maintaining the original shape with only minor changes since it first became available for the general public. While the G550 4×4 retains the classic G-Class shape, it boasts an even more intimidating appearance with its extraordinary ground clearance and wide track width of 9” in the front and 10” in the rear.

Inside, the G550 4×4, occupants are treated to all the safety, entertainment and luxury features that have come to be expected of the Mercedes-Benz brand. An 8” COMAND infotainment system, featuring satellite navigation, is equipped as standard.

  • 4.0L V8 Biturbo engine
  • 416 HP/450 ft of torque
  • Curb Weight (lbs) 5,724
  • 0-60 under 6 seconds
  • Price: about $200,000

The G550 4×4 will be available in US dealerships beginning in early 2017.
