I had a client who owned one for many years, finally realizing that both the driving and maintenance just didn’t fit their lifestyle anymore. Many others have mentioned that the racing version of the 512BB was both difficult and extremely expensive to keep running, and a real “handful” at speed.
Built in three series, the 512BBLM’s were never campaigned directly by the factory, but raced by individual privateers. With a checkered racing history, the car is an absolute beast, and I was lucky to have a ride in one at Road America years ago. I remember wishing I had recorded the sound of that glorious 4.9-liter four-cam flat-12 as it howled around that track, and when I came across this video, courtesy Goodwood Racing, I had to share.
