Me too! Fortunately a close friend got his.
Gary Premeaux of South Bay Ford recently took possession of his 2019 Ford GT. Helps, of course, that he’s one of the most successful Ford dealerships in the country. But even he wouldn’t have gotten one if he wasn’t passionate about automobiles, and nearly everyone else is out of luck if you want one now.
I did a very fast video here:
A long, long process, Gary was early on the list to spec his car and asked for my two cents.
Hundreds of thousands have visited the Ford GT Configurator to get an idea of what their individual dream car might look like. No dream for Gary, we played for hours picking color and trim, finalized the colors and all the small stuff, and with only a bit of second guessing, he placed his order.
I’ve spent a good bit of time behind the wheel of several of the original 2005 Ford GT’s, and they are wonderful cars. But technology has allowed quantum leaps in automotive performance recently, and the 2019 Ford GT has taken advantage of all the right stuff.
Ford’s supercar is now powered by a twin-turbocharged, 3.5-liter V6 engine producing 647 horsepower, and features carbon fiber architecture, and active aerodynamics, pushed it to a top speed of 216 mph. 0-60 times are in that magic under 3 seconds range, thanks to algorithms, sticky tires, and lots of torque. All this allows the newest Ford GT to compete head to head with the best from Ferrari, Lamborghini and McLaren.
Late last year, Ford announced they were raising the number of Ford GT’s being built from 1,000 to 1,350 due to overwhelming demand, and production is now expected to run for a total of approximately six years.
From Hermann Salenbauch, Ford Performance director, “By extending the Ford GT production run for a limited period, we’re able to maintain the exclusivity of the ultra-desirable supercar while offering the ownership experience to a greater number of customers.”
No, I don’t know if Gary’s car is for sale. But I do know Gary’s gotten plenty of calls inquiring about price. I also know I will be in the line-up if this thing goes missing, accidentally wanders off the showroom floor, keys misplaced by the night shift, etc.
Miles of personality, incredible looks, unattainable to almost everyone, the newest Ford GT is everything a supercar is supposed to be.
If you are in L.A. and want to kick the tires, drop me a line. Better yet, give Gary a call at 310-706-6001 or drop him an email, firstname.lastname@example.org.
