IT’S ALIVE!
In Mary Shelly’s original 1817 horror novel, Victor Frankenstein used galvanism to create his Frankenstein monster somewhere in Bavaria, Germany.
Fast forward 6000 miles and a couple of hundred years and the same stuff is going on in San Diego, CA., where in a small lab, a dedicated group is breathing life into the dead.
But just the opposite of scary, this, like the novel, is absolute brilliance.
Zelectric… is the brainchild of award-winning designer-producers David Bernardo and Bonnie Rodgers, partners in life and business since 1986. Lifelong aficionados of the VW brand, they’ve owned and loved vintage Microbuses, Karmann Ghias, and various 50s-60s Beetles…
A simple concept, bring in (or let them find one for you) a 1958-1966 investment grade VW Beetle , and Zelectric zaps in a 100% electric powertrain. You select some modifications and desired upgrades, and Zelectric hands you back an awesome machine.
I’m headed down to San Diego soon for a test drive and frankly I can’t wait. As cool as EV’s are, something has always been missing and, from my viewpoint, Zelectric appears to have found it.
Old cars come alive, and once again electricity is the catalyst. Shelly would have been proud.
