Jaguar’s All Electric I-Pace
set for its debut…
Sometime in 2018, Jaguar will start selling their first ever all electric car, the Jaguar I-Pace, as the manufacturer takes a very serious swipe at the segment leading Tesla X.
Quickly gaining technological experience by joining the electric-only Formula E-series, Jaguar has turned racing know-how into street application as it seeks to make their electric cars not only affordable, but down right desirable through a combination of looks and performance.
I spent a bit of time with the I-Pace at last November’s L.A. Auto Show, and side by side there is simply no contest as the Jag has a contemporary look the Tesla X simply can’t match.
Jaguar’s All Electric I-Pace promises a range of 220 miles on a single charge from a 90kWh battery, and with that newly found racing experience, claims to be able to recharge 80% of that battery in just 90 minutes.
Everything electric is soon going to faster than fossil fueled cars, and the Jaguar I-Pace comes out of the box with all wheel drive sports car handling, 516 pounds of instant torque, 400 HP, 0-60 around 4 seconds.
And about those batteries; Jaguar is putting lots of time into battery development with their eye on improving battery cells internally, rather than just growing bigger batteries. Constantly raising the technological performance inside the batteries means lots more grunt without additional weight. For Jaguar’s All Electric I-Pace, that means sub-4 seconds, sub 3-seconds and, according to many experts, sub-2 seconds to 60 miles per hour are right around the corner.
A classy interior, heavy on tech, priced below the Tesla X, The Jaguar I-Pace just looks sexy, and a car lots of people will want to own and drive, perhaps wooing those that have never considered a Jaguar before.
