Lambo Terzo Millennio
First in line when it comes to outrageous, the unveiling of Lamborghini’s concept Terzo Millennio (Third Millennium) is a spot light to where Lamborghini thinks its future lies, and how it hopes to stay not just relevant, but lead the way in ultra-high performance vehicles.
Lamborghini has always understood their clientele, offering quality, luxury, and gobs of exclusivity. And luxury brands can never stand still, always aware of their competition, and even in the ultra-niche market of supercars, there’s plenty of competition, not just from the legacy builders like Ferrari and Porsche, but others, nipping at their heels, anxious to join the ranks of the elite.
This little beauty may be little more than drawing board come to life, but it pulls back the curtain on the next steps of the supercar industry. Now matter how much we worship at the exhaust pipe of sound, the race for outright sports car performance is pushing internal combustion out the window, and as the clip-clop of horseshoes has given way to the wail of 6, 8 and 12 cylinder motors, a different kind of sound is just over the horizon.
A collaboration between MIT and Sant’Agata, Lamborghini is working to develop an innovative super capacitor able to bridge the gap between today’s conventional batteries and the power density necessary to let this and similar cars go from concept to the road in less than the next five years. Reduced weight, nanomaterial technology that has the ability to store energy, not just in the batteries, but in the body itself, will soon be yesterday’s news.
The visionary design is the expression of a brand new aerodynamics and architecture. Every detail is designed to make the flow of the wind stream perfect. Automobili Lamborghini tries to approach the electrification process in an unconventional way, with a concept car which is radical in the energy management, in the body, in the architecture and in design, in line with Lamborghini culture.
Thanks very much to Dr. Jagen Venk for bringing this story to my attention!
