On my very short list of “rides to arrive in” would be a Straight 8 Alfa Romeo, a Type 35 Bugatti or a Blower Bentley, circa 1930.
Friend Pete Warner chose the Bentley to go from his home in Surrey, UK to the north of France to attend the race.
Held every two years, the week after the 24-hour enduro, hundreds of machines from bygone eras assemble to swap paint on the track, while people swap tails in the stands.
And some tale Pete has, driving from his home in the south of England and through the back roads on the way to the famous track.
Legal speeds? Hardly…but peering out the tiny wind screens watching the hills of northern France roll by must be an incredible experience.
Green Bentleys (me deep green with envy), and a gorgeous Lagonda thrown in for good measure…
Here’s a bit of the story he shot along the way.
Thanks Pete!
