Mercedes-AMG GT Black Series is fastest production car on the Nürburgring-Nordschleife
Mercedes Benz AMG GT Black Series sets another record…
I doubt the Mercedes Benz AMG GT Black series is worth three time the money of the plain old GT variant, and it’s certainly not three times as fast. But, there is a great deal to be said for being the world’s fastest production car around the Nordschleife, now the yardstick for what fast is. And it’s worth repeating that this is a production car, not some race-tuned fire breather, and speaks volumes about the muscle Mercedes Benz slapped on to the Black Series. This is a machine you can actually drive on the road.
That plain Jane Mercedes AMG GT now comes with 523 HP but the AMG GT Black Series ups the ante to 720 HP, and with chassis tweaks and some aero stuff, the Black Series is aptly named. Will more grunt saddled with a $400,000 price tag translate into sales? Absolutely, and temporary, read very temporary, bragging rights for the fastest production car around this particular track.
“The AMG GT Black Series is significantly faster than my GT3 race car”
Maro Engel, racing driver for Mercedes Benz, compares his Mercedes GT3 race car to the new Mercedes AMG Black Series, and how this car has become the fastest production car around the Nordschleife.
“That was a really impressive ride,” said Maro Engel after completing the record lap. “With speeds of up to almost 168 mph in the Kesselchen section of the track and well over 186 mph on the long Döttinger Höhe straight, the AMG GT Black Series is significantly faster than my GT3 race car. To finally drive around the Nordschleife in 6:48.047 minutes (for the 12.944 mi total track) with a production road car in these track conditions is really awesome. Like my GT3 race car, the AMG GT Black Series offers a lot of adjustment possibilities, all of which enabled me to create a setup that was tailor-made for me.”
