Richard Mille has been collaborating with the British sports car manufacturer, McLaren, for the past 8 years, and have just released their 4th creation honoring McLaren’s wonderful automobiles.
The new 500 piece limited edition RM 65-01 McLaren Automatic Split-Seconds Chronograph W1 is inspired by McLaren’s newest car, the W1, HERE
Previous RM watches are also directly connected to the luxury automotive manufacturer and include the RM 50-03 Tourbillon Split-Seconds Chronograph Ultralight McLaren F1—75 pieces in 2017—, the RM 11-03 Automatic Flyback Chronograph McLaren —18,500 pieces in 2018—, and the RM 40-01 Automatic Tourbillon McLaren Speedtail—106 pieces in 2021.
Regarding the development of the RM 65-01 calibre, Salvador Arbona, Technical Director for Movements at Richard Mille, said: ‘This project perfectly illustrates Richard Mille’s philosophy of constantly pushing technical boundaries to create innovative watches that include the latest watchmaking developments with a functional, practical and high-performance approach.
During the McLaren W1 developmental stages, the Richard Mille team was given exclusive access to the design and mock-ups of the new car, enabling RM to design their new watch based on the shape and feel of McLaren’s halo car.
In keeping with the McLaren W1 power, RM engineered a new internal mechanism, the RMAC4 that beats at an appropriately high speed of 5Hz or 36,000 vibrations per hour, allowing extremely accurate measurements of time, measuring down to tenths of a second.
The new Richard Mille watch also has the thinnest bezel of any watch they have produced, a mere five tenths of a millimeter at its thinnest point.
“The W1 was designed to give the driver everything they need and nothing they don’t. It’s about a combination of epic power delivery, incredible performance and a high level of theatre both on the racetrack and the road. It is a daunting task to reflect these attributes in a watch, but Richard Mille has exceeded expectations with the RM 65-01 McLaren W1.”
