A lesson in spending money wisely…

So I’m sitting next to a venture capitalist on the plane the other day and he tells me he’s just wound up a European business tour, and one of his stops was at the garage of the man who owns Red Bull, Dietrich Mateschitz.

I’ve seen some pretty cool garages but the pictures on my seatmate’s phone were astonishing.  And not really a garage but a hangar (actually two hangars) in Salzburg, Austria.

So what does an estimated $9 Billion+ net worth buy you?  Pretty much anything you want, including one of only a handful of flyable DC-6’s in the world.

A citizen of the world but Austrian by birth, hanger 7 houses his private collection of planes and Formula 1 machines, while next door hanger 8 maintains everything.

Judging by the short video, the man who introduced the world to the Red Bull energy drink has, in my humble opinion, used a portion of his money very well. Very well indeed.
