Can 200 Tons Stop An Aston Martin?

This old photo is of an Aston Martin Lagonda Limited press image from the September 13th, 1968. In a crash test at the Motor Industry Research Facility, an Aston DBS went full stop after being remotely driven into a 200 ton block of concrete at 30 miles an hour. The test process was in response to up coming US guidelines on safety regulations.

Lots of damage, and begs the question, what would you and your vintage car look like at say, 60 miles per hour? Three relevant quotes from social media say it all:

  • Step 1- buy a cool looking car. Step 2- don’t hit shit

  • It isn’t the cars from our past that are unsafe, it’s the carelessness of our current society that gives zero fucks towards one another on the road.

  • And from Hill Street Blues, A’ll right, that’s it, let’s roll. And Hey!… let’s be careful out there.”
