FORD GT1-YOUR COMMUTE TO WORK JUST GOT BETTER

1,200 AND STREET LEGAL…FOR $1.7 MILLION

Somewhere between $400-800,000 is going to get you one of 2,022 2005 Ford GT’s the factory produced, and I remember a wonderful drive in a 2005 Ford GT, courtesy Continental Autosports, the Ferrari dealership in suburban Chicago. Engaged to write a quick 500 words for part of their “vintage” collection, a rainy morning did little to dampen my enthusiasm for a chance behind the wheel.

This was a car created in homage to the Le Mans winning GT40 racing machines that campaigned in the 60’s, beat Ferrari, and arguably one of the most visible shapes in sports car history. The black Ford GT was more than I’d hoped for, thought driving a car intentionally devoid of both traction and stability control in the rain meant leaning heavily on the side of caution. That drive is still one of my favorites, vintage or modern.

In 2009, Brian Wolfe, then head of Ford North America Motorsports, agreed to let the Swiss racing team Matech Concepts (which folded in 2011) build a GT1 variant of the Ford GT that was campaigning successfully around the world, the car leading its class for 8 hours before folding with mechanical issues.

Now, LYNX Motors of Texas, has announced the street-legal version of the Ford Matech Concepts GT1 Le Mans race car! They teamed up with Graham Rahal Performance (GRP) to produce 28 of these machines, all constructed at Graham Rahal Performance (GRP) in Zionsville, IN. What’s not to like in a supercharged V8 engine with over 1,200 horsepower.

LYNX Motors has a well deserved reputation for bring automotive classics back to life through combining amazing craftsmanship and cutting-edge technology. Experts in designing, restoring and customizing cars, including some legendary classics. GRP is a performance shop founded by NTT INDYCAR Series driver Graham Rahal in 2017.
