Since the popular 1960s futuristic cartoon The Jetsons, everyone has dreamt of gliding over terra firma just like George Jetson did in his flying car. Billed as the first affordable eVTOL (electric vertical take off and landing) on the market, no pilot’s license is required in the United States. The open cockpit, single seat design makes the Jetson One a dreamer’s reality.
From Jetson One
Digital fly-by-wire controls, lidar, and hands-free emergency hover to make flight intuitive and safe—very safe. The system also includes propulsion redundancy, safety-cell chassis, crumple zones, prop guards, and a ballistic parachute for when all else fails.
While flying taxis are certainly around the corner, big players, including governments, are working to solve the problems of mass transportation, Jetson One takes a much more simplistic approach; “We’re happy to let the big guys solve the big problems,” says Ternström. “We can teach you to fly our aircraft in five minutes. It’s like a jet ski or a scooter that flies.”
“We just want to have fun,” says Peter Ternström, president and founder of the Swedish company, …which introduced Jetson One, a “personal electric aerial vehicle.”
“Remember the scene in Return of the Jedi when they’re zipping through the forest on those hovercraft?” he says, “That’s what the One can replicate. People are going to want that landspeeder experience.”
The Jetson is a formula one racing car for the sky. A beautiful and lightweight design in aluminum and carbon fiber, that is incredibly fun to fly.
It has eight powerful motors, driving an equal amount of propellers. The propulsion system has a massive power output, making flight effortless and fun.
The unique flight computer makes flying extremely easy. With full control over altitude and direction in one hand, the simple to learn system makes everyone a pilot in less than five minutes.
The Jetson One has a race-car inspired safety cell that protects the pilot, can sustain continuous flight with the loss of one motor, has an auto land function, and multiple safety features to protect the occupant in case of an emergency.
Like a luxury sports car, the Jetson One is more toy than actual transportation, but for around $100,000, this might be the most enjoyable vehicle you will ever own.
- pilot must weight less than 210 pounds
- maximum speed 63 mph
- 8 independent electric motors
- maximum ceiling of 1,200 feet per FAA regulations
- can only be flown during daylight in unregulated space, so don’t try landing at JFK.
- they are taking orders for 2026
Extended range is coming soon, meaning that you will literally be able to commute anywhere, with the ability to charge up at electric charging stations along your route. Now, off to Spacely Space Sprockets…
