Piaget Altiplano Ultimate Concept Tourbillon

Very thin man's watch

Very thin man's watch

Piaget celebrates its 150th anniversary, and for them, less is more.

The new Piaget Altiplano Ultimate Concept Tourbillon is thin at just 2mm, or 1/16th of an inch thick, and is pushing the boundaries of what watches can do.

For those that just can’t settle for a “normal” wrist piece, this new Piaget offering should give you pause when shopping for something truly unique.

Powering the timepiece is an entirely new skeletonized mainspring barrel shaped in Piaget’s signature cross-hair logo, with sapphire crystals shaved down to just 0.2mm thick, and many small pieces painted by hand.

Although no thinner than their previous Altiplano Ultimate Concept watch, Piaget has added a one minute flying tourbillion (tourbillon is a French term that means “whirlwind.” If you take one close look at a tourbillon watch in action, then the name makes perfect sense. It has a mesmerizing spiral motion that can be quite hypnotic).

“The connection with the Altiplano Ultimate Concept is clear but deceptive. Despite how it may appear, we did more than merely add a tourbillon. We reinvented everything,” explains Piaget CEO Benjamin Comar.

150 years after their founding, the new Piaget Altiplano Ultimate Concept Tourbillon demonstrates that their quest to “always do better than necessary”, continues to define their reason to combine craftsmanship and the timeless art of watchmaking.
